Jennifer has 25 years of experience working in the mental health field including 15 years working with youth and their families who were involved in the foster and adoptive care systems. After serving as the Director of Clinical Services at a therapeutic foster and adoptive care agency, Jennifer moved on in order to provide school based mental health services to students ranging in age from 11-19 years old. Although Jennifer has spent the majority of her career in the outpatient care sector, she started her work in human service at an inpatient acute care facility, where she was involved in the intake and admissions process.
Jennifer enjoys the journey of the therapy process. Her work is influenced significantly by the psychodynamic model; her clinical approach is attachment & relationship focused and trauma informed. By working in this way, Jennifer and her clients make connections between past relationship patterns and present interpersonal difficulties, as well as, unresolved trauma and current distress. Jennifer is trained in the Quaker Friends’ Conflict Resolution mediation model. She will draw from this knowledge when working with individuals in order to assist them with perspective taking, negotiating in interpersonal relationships, and identifying solution options. In her private practice, Jennifer often assists individuals who are struggling with symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, body image concerns, and relationship difficulties.
Jennifer is a graduate of both Penn State and Temple Universities. While at Penn State, Jennifer majored in Psychology and completed additional study in the areas of Human Development & Family Studies and African American Studies. As an undergraduate, Jennifer earned an Excellence in Research Award for a project she conducted and a model she created on the eating patterns of male and female college students. Later as a graduate student, Jennifer’s research, specialization, and experience in the areas of attachment and effective family based interventions was recognized by the American Public Health Association, when they gave her the opportunity to share her work at their national conference. Her presentation was titled Benefits of Attachment Focused Interventions for Youth in Foster Care.
After earning her MSW with a blended concentration in Health/Mental Health & Children/Families and becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Jennifer returned to the classroom as an instructor. For more than 5 years, Jennifer has been a Field Supervisor and Ad Junct Faculty member for Temple University. Along with providing supervision and mentoring to MSW candidates, Jennifer has taught courses on Child & Adolescent Mental Health, Ethics, and Principles of Practice. In addition, Jennifer is an Approved Clinical Supervisor by the National Board of Certified Counselors and uses this training to mentor other clinicians.
